CLUB NEWS - TOURNAMENT RESULTS

On January 28th, our 14’s played at Cathedral Prep Center in Erie, PA and became the first team in our club history to go undefeated in pool play and play in the “Gold Bracket” with a chance to win the tournament. The team finished the tournament in 3rd place which is the best tournament result to date!

Last weekend our 18’s team traveled to West Seneca, NY and competed in their first tournament in the Western Empire volleyball region and produced some great results. The 18’s finished first in their pool and finished the day in 3rd place overall!

All of our team success has come from hard work in practice and showing a real will to win on the court. The coaching staff can see individual growth from all players in the club and we anticipate having continued success in tournament play going forward.

Our institutional program has been focusing on building confidence in ourselves as individual volleyball players. We have been using the Accuspike at practices daily which has allowed our coaching staff to break down the hitting mechanics and allows our athletes to gets lots of swings while trying to focus on a certain part of their attack. Along with improving on their attack, our athletes are reaching new heights...LITERALLY. We have seen our athletes attack jump increase by as much as 5 inches due to the intensity and the mechanics of their approach while using the Accuspike.

Our speed training and core strengthening is proving effective as reported by our athletes. We have been very consistent with our ladder drills and speed exercises and the results can be seen on the court by the number of balls our players are able to get to. Since the majority of volleyball is played without the ball, we have been implementing more and more drills that practice the importance of preparing for the ball and learning on how to predict where the ball will be. Those drills, combined with our speed training are allow our teams to play great defense in our matches.
